Facing cancer is one of life’s hardest challenges, but at KMC’s Oncology Department, no one does it alone. Our team of cancer specialists works with doctors from chemotherapy nurses to psychosocial counselors to create a supportive, hopeful environment. “We combine advanced treatments with heartfelt care,” says the Dr. “We treat the cancer – and we care for you as a whole person.”
Comprehensive Cancer Care: We treat solid tumors (breast, lung, colorectal, prostate, etc.) and blood cancers (lymphoma, leukemia). Every patient has a personalized plan: surgery if needed, chemotherapy, targeted therapy (where a medication zeroes in on cancer cells), and the latest immunotherapies when appropriate.
Pain & Palliative Support: Quality of life is paramount. Alongside active treatment, we offer pain management clinics and palliative care teams who focus on your comfort and dignity. This might mean complementary therapies (like acupuncture or relaxation training) as part of the program.
Family Involvement: We hold educational meetings to explain diagnoses and treatments to families. We even have a cozy family lounge and an annual patient support group where survivors share stories over Arabic coffee – building community so no one feels isolated.
Patient Story: Leila from Beirut recalls her journey: “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I felt helpless. My Oncologist walked me through each option – chemotherapy, then lumpectomy – and what to expect. The day I finished chemo, all the nurses gave me flowers and a cake. It was such a relief. Now, three years on, I’m cancer-free, exercising daily. I still come to KMC for follow-ups and support; they really gave me back hope.”
Questions We Address: “What if I can’t do chemotherapy?” We have alternative cancer treatments on hand, like radiation therapy (planned soon at KMC) or targeted biologic drugs. We also collaborate with AUBMC radiotherapy in Beirut for cases needing radiotherapy.
“Are there support services?” Absolutely. We have on-site nutritionists who help manage chemo side-effects, psychologist counselors to talk through the emotional journey, and social workers who assist with logistics (including medical leave paperwork and connecting with cancer charities). We even help international patients find accommodations – many sisters from the Gulf region travel here for discreet, compassionate care.
Unique Points: KMC’s oncology is not just about machines and medication; it is about relationships. For instance, after your chemotherapy session, our nurses might arrange a quiet outing in our garden with lemon blossom tea if you feel up to it. We are also proud to follow the latest global protocols – our oncologists regularly attend international conferences – while understanding local needs, like ensuring our medications are accessible under Lebanese health plans. Every patient here hears: “We are on this journey with you.”
